Halep, Wozniacki, Nishikori and Martin Landaluce, first invitees to the Mutua Madrid Open

MADRID, 3 Abr. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Mutua Madrid Open announced this Wednesday the first invitations to the ATP and WTA tournament that takes place between the last week of April and the first week of May, for Simona Halep, Caroline Wozniacki, Kei Nishikori and Martín Landaluce.

The Caja Mágica thus ensures the presence of two former world number ones such as the Romanian and the Danish. Halep is back on the court after the Court of Arbitration for Sport reduced his suspension for two anti-doping violations to nine months.

The Romanian is the racket that has reached the title match the most times on the Madrid clay court, four finals played and two titles, those in 2016 and 2017. For its part, Wozniacki was a finalist in the first edition hosted by the Caja Mágica 15 years ago, defeated in 2009 by Dinara Safina.

In the men’s team, one of the big news is the return of Nishikori, who touched the title in 2014 when only Rafa Nadal and an injury prevented him from completing a tremendous week. The Japanese, a semi-finalist in two more seasons (2015 and 2016), will make his tenth participation in the Mutua Madrid Open.

Another of the first invitations went to the Spaniard Landaluce who, at 18 years old, already has the experience of having stepped on the clay of the Manolo Santana stadium last year against Richard Gasquet. On this occasion, he arrives after celebrating his first victory in an ATP Masters 1000 last week in Miami.
