Futsal, youth, Olympics, Euro… Nine French football teams in the final stages, a historic record

In recent weeks, four youth teams have validated their tickets for their respective European Championships. First, the U17 women will defend their title in Sweden at the beginning of May, having qualified on March 24. The same day, Bernard Diomède’s French U-19 team also won its place for the Euro, which will take place in July in Northern Ireland, after the U-17s who will fly to Cyprus at the end of May. The last qualified French team to date, Philippe Joly’s U19 women’s team, who crushed the Czech Republic (5-0) on Tuesday, finishing at the top of their group. The Bleuettes will play their Euro in Lithuania at the end of July.

In addition to these four teams, Didier Deschamps’ France A team will play the Euro in Germany from June 14 to July 14 before the French Olympic teams (men’s and women’s) in Paris from July 26 to August 11. Add to this the French U-20 women’s team, qualified since the end of last season for the World Cup in Colombia after reaching the semi-finals of the U-19 women’s Euro in 2023. The last team to qualify, the Futsal Blues who will participate in their very first World Cup. It will be in the fall, in Uzbekistan.

With all these qualified teams, the French Football Federation hopes to add a little more to its list of achievements which includes 32 world and European titles won by its different national selections, the latest being the women’s Euro U 17 won in May 2023 by the players by Peggy Provost. Of all the youth teams, the U20 World Cup is the only one that France is still missing.

“The Federation is experiencing a historic year 2024 for all of its national selections. A historic year which foreshadows a unique and fantastic summer,” said Philippe Diallo, president of the French Football Federation, in a press release.
