French Showdown: Paris vs. Bourg-en-Bresse in Eurocup Final!

The Eurocup final will pit Paris against Bourg-en-Bresse! The Burgiens beat Besiktas 89-63 in the support match this Wednesday in their Ekinox venue.

The final of the second European Cup behind the Euroleague will be 100% French! While Paris had qualified for the Eurocup final on Friday by winning in London in Match 2 of its semi-final, Bourg-en-Bresse had to play a Match 3 against Besiktas in its Ekinox venue. And the JL largely won: 89-63!

Bourg was still in Pro B seven years ago…

But upon returning from the locker room, the Burgiens completely took over their opponents, in the wake of Maksim Salash who finished with 19 points and 4 rebounds. Bourg widened the gap little by little to take a nine-point lead in the 27th minute, then blew up Besiktas in the last quarter: the Turks only scored four points, while the Burgiens scored 24! In a crazy atmosphere, the Ain players gave it their all. The twelve players on the scoresheet all scored at least two points during this meeting. Back in the elite since 2017, the JL, which has only won titles in Pro B, offers its first European final!

A third French club in the Euroleague?

Next week, Paris will host Bourg-en-Bresse on Tuesday at the Adidas Arena for Match 1 of the final, then the two teams will travel to Ain three days later for Match 2. If necessary, the Match 3 will take place on April 17 in the capital, the Parisians having finished with a better record than the Burgiens during the group stage (17 victories against 14).

In the championship, Bourg won by two points in the first leg at home in December. Coincidentally with the calendar, the return match in Betclic Elite was to take place between Matches 2 and 3 of the Eurocup final, but the National Basketball League has already postponed it to April 28. In any case, this 100% French final ensures the presence of a third French club in the Euroleague next season, since a victory in the second European Cup allows you to obtain a ticket for the first. Unless Paris or Bourg renounces it for logistical or financial reasons, like Gran Canaria last season…

Burgian scorers: Lewis (6), Brown (3), Salash (19), Benitez (2), Courby (6), Risacher (8), Massa (4), Morgan (8), Rowland (2), Mike (10), Kokila (10), Julien (11)
