Saved for the San Antonio Spurs’ final regular season match on Sunday, the French prodigy has finished his rookie year.

French rookie Victor Wembanyama will miss the last match of the Spurs season on Sunday in the NBA, to preserve a sore ankle after the victory against Denver two days ago, the San Antonio club announced.

The 20-year-old, who should undoubtedly be named Rookie (best beginner) of the year in the NBA, will not be lined up for the match against Detroit.

He thus ended his season with a prestigious victory against the Nuggets (121-120), reigning champions, during which he recorded 34 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists.

His record, for his very first season in the NBA, amounts to an average of 21.4 points per game, 10.6 rebounds and 3.9 assists.

“Wemby”, at 2.24m tall, arrived in the NBA last year as No. 1 in the draft, surrounded by a lot of expectations. If the Spurs had a complicated exercise, which will end at the bottom of the standings in the West at the end of the regular season, the Frenchman has often impressed.

Latest performance to date, Friday against the Nuggets, where he largely contributed to his team’s victory, after managing to make up a 23-point deficit. He notably scored 17 points in just three minutes in the third quarter.
