Antonsen, the Frenchman’s pet peeve
Tired physically and mentally, Popov lacked the lucidity to worry his opponent, who was fairer and more incisive.
“I made mistakes which gave him confidence again. I gave everything yesterday, I didn’t think this match would leave so many marks. Against Antonsen we have no room for error,” conceded the Fosséen after the meeting. Once again, the 25-year-old badista chased the score, facing a rival who has never succeeded on the circuit so far (eight losses in eight matches).

With this second place, the eldest of the siblings, however, made sure to get back in front of his younger brother, Christo, in the “Race to Paris”.
For his part, Anders Antonsen consolidates his status as the best European on the world circuit. He thus adds a second continental gold medal to his collection, after a first singles title in 2021.
