France will host the Men’s World Championships in 2029

France has obtained co-organization with Germany of the 2029 men’s handball world championship, the French Handball Federation (FFHB) announced on Tuesday April 16.

“After the 2017 World Cup and then the Women’s Euro 2018, FFHandball aims to organize an exceptional event in January 2029”declared the FFHB in a press release.

Philippe Bana, president of the FFHB, greets “an additional opportunity to continue the development of handball” in France as well “a turning point in the history of the two largest handball federations”.

Paris will host the opening match

France has already hosted the event three times, first in 1970, then in 2001 and 2017 – these last two editions saw the Blues win at home. As for Germany, host of the last Euro, won in January by the French team, it co-organized the 2019 edition with Denmark.

The precise program has not yet been detailed, but the FFHB has already stated that Paris will be responsible for hosting the opening match then the final four of the competition.

Two host cities in France and three in Germany, which will be announced later, will host the preliminary phases and quarter-finals of the Worlds.
