Formula 1: Fernando Alonso postpones his retirement and extends his contract with Aston Martin

Alonso “fitter than ever”

The former Renault driver has, in fact, signed a “multi-year agreement until the end of 2026”, a year which will mark the start of new technical regulations and the arrival of Honda as Aston Martin engine supplier, said Mike Krack , the team boss in a press release. “I’m in top shape physically and I’m always hungry for success. I want to give everything in our project to become a world champion team,” adds the driver, also quoted.

In 2023, for his first season with the British team, Alonso finished 4th in the championship, his best ranking since 2013 (he finished vice-world champion that year). After four rounds contested in 2024, the Spaniard is currently 8th in the drivers’ championship, Aston Martin 5th among the constructors.
