Former NHLer Bobby Ryan Doubts Popularity of Women’s Sports

The NCAA basketball game between Iowa and LSU attracted the interest of 12.3 million viewers in the United States on Monday, but it will take more to convince former NHLer Bobby Ryan of the real popularity of women’s sports.

On the social network

“Name seven players. Not one. Not two. From five to seven. Their first and last name… go ahead,” wrote the former color wearer of the Ducks, Senators and Red Wings, who has been retired since 2021.

And let’s say that his comments sparked a lively debate between several Internet users.

But even if some strongly criticized him, the second choice of the 2005 auction added more the next day, writing: “Relax everyone! It’s 8:43 p.m., I just want to go home and pretend that women’s sports are really popular.”

The “Elite 8” matchup between superstar Caitlin Clark’s Iowa Hawkeyes and the LSU Tigers drew a record viewership for an NCAA women’s basketball game.

A new brand

According to the Front Office Sport website, this is also a new brand for a college basketball game broadcast on ESPN, all genders combined.

In comparison, each Stanley Cup Final game between the Golden Knights and Panthers last June attracted an average of 2.6 viewers in the United States.

Bobby Ryan has shown on a few occasions in recent months that he is not afraid of criticism. At the podcast microphone Coming in Hot, the former forward recently said that Senators coach DJ Smith’s training camps had a “country club” feel.
