Forfeited for the Giro after his fall at Paris-Nice, Wilco Kelderman (Visma-Lease a Bike) leaves his place to Koen Bouwman

Visma-Lease a Bike announced this Wednesday that Wilco Kelderman had to withdraw from the next Giro (May 4 to 26). The 33-year-old Dutchman broke his collarbone on the roads from Paris to Nice and will not recover in time. He was to be one of the co-leaders of the Dutch team

“Wilco has not yet sufficiently recovered from his broken collarbone. Because recovery is taking longer than expected, Wilco has decided, along with the team, not to start the Giro. Koen Bouwman, already present in the Giro team’s altitude camp, will replace him,” Visma-Lease a Bike told X.

Kelderman, 3rd in the Tour of Italy, will therefore be replaced by Bouwman, winner of two stages and the mountain classification in the Tour of Italy in 2022.
