Football: injured in one knee, Les Bleues and OL striker Eugénie Le Sommer will undergo surgery

The striker of Lyon and the French women’s football team Eugénie Le Sommer, injured in the right knee during the Sweden-France match (0-1) on April 9, will undergo surgery, Sonia Bompastor announced on Friday , OL coach.

The player, aged 34, will be absent for “several weeks” and is therefore out of the Champions League semi-final against Paris Saint-Germain. The first leg is scheduled for April 20.

Le Sommer was injured in a collision with Jonna Andersson in the 61st minute of the match counting for qualifying for Euro 2025. “It’s not the cruciate ligament but she still has to undergo surgery,” said Bompastor said.

For her part, attacker Delphine Cascarino suffers from pelvic pain. “We will see from day to day how she recovers,” observed the technician. The French international will also miss the derby in Saint-Étienne on Sunday in the French Championship, and remains uncertain to face PSG.
