Fernando Alonso extends his contract with Aston Martin for several seasons

While the ever-increasing number of rumors have been crossing the paddock in an interrupted manner for several weeks, one of the most important dominoes has just fallen: Fernando Alonso, at the end of his contract this year, will extend the adventure starting in 2023 with Aston Martin.

“I am here to stay,” he shared via the team’s social networks. The Spaniard, who will turn 43 in July, will be at the wheel at least for the 2025 and 2026 seasons, the year of the new regulations in which the British team will begin a collaboration with Honda.

After that ? Everything is possible because the duration of the contract has not been revealed but the double world champion himself clarified that he could drive beyond 2026 if he still feels fit and that the car that Aston Martin puts it in his hands is competitive. If he decides to end his career as an F1 driver before the end of this contract, he could continue with a different role within the team.

With Aston Martin, joined to everyone’s surprise after two seasons at Alpine, Alonso signed 8 podiums and took 4th place in the 2023 World Championship, his best result since 2013 when he played for Ferrari. It is also since this same 2013 season that he has been chasing a 33rd victory in F1.
