Federal crimes decreased 28.2%, says SSPC – El Sol de México

Rosa Icela Rodríguez Velázquez, Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC) stated that this month of March that ended, the criminal incidence of federal jurisdiction decreased by 28.2%.

“First of all, we have the criminal incidence of federal jurisdiction, which has a reduction of 28.2% compared to December 2018. In almost all crimes we have significant reductions and, where there are increases, in these crimes, especially in crimes prosecutors and organized crime crimes,” said the secretary during the morning conference of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.

Regarding intentional homicides, the official said that, although in March there was an increase compared to last February, it is the March with the fewest crimes of this type in 7 years, “it is March 2024, the lowest in seven years.” in intentional homicides,” said Rodríguez.

Regarding this crime, he explained that the daily averages of victims of intentional homicide decreased 22% compared to 2018.

Also, in relation to painful homicides by state, he said that the states with the highest crime incidence are: Guanajuato, State of Mexico, Baja California, Chihuahua, Jalisco and Michoacán. He stressed that these states account for 46.9% of this crime.

In relation to Guanajuato, he stated that in this month of March, there were 30 more homicides than in February.

In addition, he explained that, in the State of Mexico there were 12 more crimes than the previous month; Baja California had 39 fewer than the month of February; in Chihuahua six homicides less than the month of February; In Jalisco, 19 more homicides were recorded than the previous month, and in Michoacán four more homicides than in February.

“In total in the 50 priority municipalities, we have a decrease of 23% less in relation to December 2018,” said the head of SSPC.

In relation to theft, he stated that as of March 31, there is a 31.2% decrease in this crime and highlighted that it is also the lowest month since records have been recorded.

Regarding vehicle theft, he assured that there is a reduction of 49.3%.

In relation to feminicide in March, he reported that records indicate there was a decrease of 29% from the beginning of the administration to date.

In this sense, he added that they continue to “intensify actions to prevent persecution and sanction feminist violence.”

When explaining the causes of the decrease in kidnapping, he expressed that the crime of kidnapping has decreased mainly due to the national coordination of anti-kidnapping institutions and the anti-kidnapping units of the state prosecutor’s offices.

He stressed that to date, 6,106 kidnappers have been detained since the beginning of the administration; 671 gangs dismantled and 2,996 victims released.

In terms of hydrocarbon theft, he stated that there has been a decrease of 94.2%.

“It is very important for the government of Mexico (the result), due to the instructions given by the president from the beginning of the administration of attention by the Armed Forces of this crime, which has had an estimated savings, according to the Petróleos Mexicanos figures of 322,464 million pesos,” he noted.

Finally, he said that with the prevention of the seizure of booths by the National Guard, it has been able to avoid the loss of 4,592 million pesos in 2024.
