After FC Bayern’s defeat against BVB, Dietmar Hamann has harsh words for the performance and coach Thomas Tuchel. The expert calls on the club’s leadership to react immediately. Hamann brings a prominent replacement into play.

Former national player Dietmar Hamann advises FC Bayern to immediately separate from coach Thomas Tuchel after the 2-0 defeat in the Bundesliga classic against Borussia Dortmund. “You have to give an impulse, that was an oath of revelation,” explained the 50-year-old on Sky. “You can’t allow yourself to just let the season end like that.” The club management now has to ask itself the question “whether they want to go into the next few weeks with Thomas Tuchel.” The overall balance sheet under Tuchel is “too little”. The separation of Munich and Tuchel at the end of the season has already been decided.

With a performance like that against BVB, progress in the Champions League in the quarter-finals against Arsenal FC would also be in danger, said Hamann on the TV show “Sky90”. “As a club, you now have to make a decision about what is best for the club. It’s not about Thomas Tuchel or Max Eberl, Harry Kane or Joshua Kimmich, it’s about Bayern Munich. You are among the eight best teams in Europe and if Bayern play what they can, they have an excellent chance of progressing against Arsenal.”

When asked about their English opponents, Hammann was even clearer: “Arsenal are a good team, but they are still very inexperienced at this level. And in my opinion you now have to make a decision as to whether this is the best possible setup to progress against Arsenal. For me, the management has to ask itself the question of whether it will now go into the final spurt of the league and the Champions League with Thomas Tuchel in the next few weeks.”

Mourinho to FC Bayern?

Hamann sees José Mourinho, who recently had to leave AS Roma, as a possible alternative. “He is an outstanding professional man. I could very well imagine him saying, I’ll do the eight or ten weeks and if things go well, another year.” Bayern are “still a big number and there are a lot of coaches who don’t have any work at the moment have”.

Munich’s former technical director, Michael Reschke, also considers the Portuguese Mourinho to be a possible alternative to Tuchel. “Mourinho is a motivational artist, he has aura, he has charisma. I’m not saying that’s the solution. But that is at least an approach that needs to be discussed,” said the 66-year-old. He has doubts as to whether Tuchel is the best solution for FC Bayern for the rest of the season. In the Bundesliga, Munich are 13 points behind leaders Bayer Leverkusen.
