With the nomination, 39-year-old Daniel Siebert will be taking part in the final round of a major tournament for the third time after the 2021 European Championships and the 2022 World Cup. For the 42-year-old Zwayer, however, the European Championships in Germany will be a first.

“We are pleased about UEFA’s trust in our referees, also in our work with the referees, and we are very grateful for that,” said the head of the DFB referees Lutz Michael Fröhlich. “All of the nominees have worked hard for this and truly deserve this highlight in their careers,” he added. A nomination for a big tournament – especially in your own country – gives you goosebumps and provides additional motivation.

Referee Felix Brych officiated a semi-final in 2021

At the most recent European Championship, which was postponed by a year to 2021 due to the corona pandemic, two German referees were also nominated; Felix Brych was there alongside Siebert. Brych also refereed the semi-final between Italy and Spain during the tournament.

The European Championship 2024 in Germany will take place from June 14th to July 14th. The games are played in Berlin, Hamburg, Dortmund, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt am Main, Gelsenkirchen, Cologne, Leipzig, Munich and Stuttgart. Germany will face Scotland, Hungary and Switzerland in the preliminary round.
