Estudiantes play for honor against Rayo Zuliano

Estudiantes de Mérida, eliminated and with nothing to lose, face Rayo Zuliano at home this Thursday, also eliminated, at the Metropolitan stadium. They are only fighting for honor on the field and finishing the Apertura Tournament in a good way.

Last day for a match without much relevance for the tournament that ends the regular round, where it is only played to avoid finishing in last place in the Futve League.

The academic team, already focused on the Clausura Tournament, is at the bottom of the table with five points, the same amount as Zamora FC and with two units less than Rayo Zuliano. A new victory can give the red and whites the satisfaction of not being last, rescuing something from a terrible tournament.

Last date, those led by Daniel Farías fell 3-2 against Portuguesa FC with a double from Jorge Páez that was not enough to save the tie. Near the end, center back Tomás Prieto was sent off with a straight red card, so he will not play against the Marabino team.

Ray from more to less

As for Rayo Zuliano, they have had a more or less tournament, including their debut in the Copa Conmebol Suramericana.

Second to last in the Futve League, they have three consecutive draws, missing the victory last day against Deportivo La Guaira. Armando Araque and Saimon Ramírez put the electric team ahead, but they could not prevent a double from Álex Custodio to make it 2-2.

Those led by Elvis Martínez only have to close the Apertura positively and focus on the Clausura.
