Asked by the Team about the match against Benfica, Carlos Mozer admitted to having advised Estevao, a young striker from Palmeiras. Dominique Baillifspecialist in Brazilian football and consultant for RTL and RFI gives us his opinion on the young 16-year-old player.
Dominique Baillif knows Estevao well and tells us more: “today, he is one of the biggest prospects, he will not be able to come to Europe before he is 18 (he will be 17 on April 24). In Brazil, Estevao is considered a future crack player, there are a lot of clubs including Chelsea which must make a first offer estimated at €40M, FC Barcelona is also interested especially since its agent is the same as Vitor Roque who already signed with the club. Two other English clubs were also involved, so I think that for Marseille it is not possible, they cannot fight. He is not necessarily a very tall player, he is only 16 years old but he is rather slender, he is not 1m80 (1m76), he is more of a side attacker, he is not a real winger overflowing as Vinicius can be. He played his first professional match and he even scored with a header, he played on the right. He has also often played up front with the youngsters. Let’s see how he develops and what his best position will be. In terms of comparison, not of level but of style of play, he is more of a Rodrygo of Real Madrid when he was at Santos. He’s not a true number 9 but he’s versatile, he can play in several positions. »

And Carlos Mozer can’t choose between Benfica and OM, he regularly sends reports to his contacts at the Olympian club. He would like to work with the Marseille club and has made this known to the team again.

“It’s not up to me. It is rather up to the club to believe that I can contribute to bringing something to OM. Given my experience, I consider myself capable of helping the club grow. Afterwards, even if no one asks me anything, I try to lend a hand. Just yesterday (Friday), I sent a report to a colleague at OM about a very promising Brazilian (Estevao, 16 years old, Palmeiras striker). I did it in a friendly way, because I love OM, and I want to see this club at the top of the bill again. Working with OM? Yes, I would love to. There were some discussions during the 1993 title celebrations, but nothing concrete. That doesn’t stop me from slipping a few names of recruits to Jean-Pierre Papin (advisor to the president at OM) or to other people. »
This young 16-year-old left-handed right winger is a Brazilian U17 international. Estevao plays for Palmeiras, but only 61 minutes in the Brazilian league this season. He has a contract until 2026 with the Brazilian club.
