England: at 37, Jamie Vardy offers the title of D 2 champion to Leicester

Eight years after Leicester’s memorable Premier League victory, the inexhaustible Jamie Vardy is still going strong. At 37, the Foxes center forward scored a double on Monday evening at Preston North End (3-0), to offer the second division title to his team. The England international (26 caps) has lost none of his flair and has now scored 18 goals in the league and is the fifth top scorer in the Championship.

Quite a feat, established at an advanced age and when he has not even taken part in half of Leicester’s matches this season (42% of minutes played). With Marc Albrighton (34), Vardy is one of the two survivors of the 2016 championship title under the noses of the English giants, considered one of the greatest feats in the history of football. At the end of his contract next June, the attacker could return for another season.

In the wake of their emblematic captain, at the club since 2012, the Foxes will return to the Premier League a year after leaving it. With one day remaining, the second direct ticket for the elite is played between Ipswich Town and Leeds United. The third promoted will be determined at the end of the play-offs, in which Southampton, another team regular in the Premier League over the last decade, will participate.
