Empowering Women Through Film: A Screening of ‘Tatami – A Woman Fighting for Freedom’

FERMO – On Saturday 6 April at 7pm the Sala degli Artisti in Fermo hosts the Iranian Narges Bayat of the Fondazione Cineteca di Bologna who introduces the film “Tatami – A woman fighting for freedom”, by the directors Guy Nattiv (Israeli) and Zar Amir (Iranian), inspired by true events, a powerful hymn to the autonomy of thought and action of women.

The sporting fight to win the world women’s judo title becomes political action when the Iranian authorities force the possible champion to withdraw because she could meet the Israeli athlete, a nation considered absolute evil.

In black and white with strong contrasts, the pair of directors create a tense and compelling metaphorical thriller, where unshakable human courage is the natural force to try to defeat any regime, even at a high cost

An action film, with a fast and non-convulsive pace, made up of internal conflicts and never of overlaps, in which moral duty (winning for oneself, for the family, for the country) and the protection of loved ones clash with the human laws. And when the laws are very wrong, some women discover in them the spirit of Antigone that guides them, in the right rebellion and in self-affirmation.

Narges Bayat will also be present on Friday 5 April at 9.15pm at the Salone Snaporaz in Cattolica, another room managed by the Circolo del Cinema Metropolis.
