Ivan Juric’s statements after the Empoli-Turin 3-2 match
After the Empoli-Torino 3-2 match, Torino coach Ivan Juric spoke to Sky Sport to comment on the match. Below are his statements.
Did the mistakes up front, i.e. the goals that didn’t materialise, weigh more heavily, or those at the back? “We have never played so well in Empoli, created so many scoring opportunities. But we made so many mistakes. Conceding a goal from a lateral foul, then on the counterattack, then that thing at the end… It seemed like it was destiny. But the team played great football, played really well against Empoli who were doing well before us, against us they did much better than in other matches”.
Looking at the derby, what work needs to be done now? “I saw them aware of the great game they played in terms of opportunities created. We conceded four shots. But we are also aware that when you make mistakes like this you are punished. We will get someone back, the team has been in a good moment for months, today we did many things well but it’s a shame about some details that were decisive”.
You conceded goals in your good moments. Did you lose this game because you tried to win it and got caught? “No, because at 2-2 we had another chance to score. It’s not that we took a backlash. It was a manageable, normal situation, the kind that happens many times. Raoul made a bad decision and we paid for it. Looking at the statistics there is little to say about the performance, but then we made serious mistakes on all three goals. What should I say? As a match I think we did very well in terms of play and intensity, but we managed to concede three goals, unfortunately that’s how it went”.
Do you think that the Europe objective is compromised? “When the team plays well but the players make mistakes, I get less angry, if anything I’m disappointed. Seeing how the team is playing, how they move on the pitch, how they continue to play when they are losing, I have confidence. Let’s hope we don’t have any further injuries. Now let’s prepare well for the derby. I’ve seen the team well for months. However, this defeat was not needed. However, I am convinced that we will continue to play well in the last seven games”.
