Élan Aveyron Ends N3 Season with Victory and Smiles

By ending the season with a fifth victory (62-52) – and a third in a row – on Sunday April 14, the Aveyronnaises completed their adventure in N3 with a smile, after five seasons at this level, and despite the descent to Prenational . They finished second to last in their group, relegating Avignon to the bottom place at the buzzer.

A few tears fell on the floor of the primauboise room of the Citadelle, Sunday April 14. “No big speeches, no retirement, we will make up for it if there is any,” promised the Élan Aveyron coach, Nicolas Flottes, on the microphone and surrounded by his players. After a season that challenged their competitive spirit, their morale and their physical tenacity, the Aveyronnaises ended the season on a good note.

By beating Saint-Just-Saint-Rambert 62-52, Audrey Hautcolas’s gang signed their fifth victory of the season, and the third in a row. A small consolation for the basketball players who, a few months after having ensured their maintenance in N3 rather comfortably, have had a series of setbacks and disappointments for five months. These successes with their multiplied flavor were not enough for the white and blue to maintain their place in the division. And at the start of the school year, it is in the Pre-National that they will evolve, while turning the page of five seasons in N3.

“There was nothing written”

“From these five seasons, I keep a lot of pride because there was nothing written. When I took the team, we were 7th in the Pre-National. We have to play to maintain and we move up from the first year,” summarized Nicolas Flottes, with a smile on his face as he looked at the crowd and his protégés scattered around the room. “I remember a lot of traveling and sharing, I remember a lot of positive things, I remember all the hard core that we created, because many are not just teammates but friends thanks to this sport,” listed Laura Sincholle, executive of the team, digging through their memories. The EAB internal post was also frustrated for a long time at the start of the season: in the infirmary even before the first day, she could not support her teammates.

A situation shared by Justine Goulignac, who was injured against Riorges on October 15. “It was super frustrating. But afterwards, when we saw the level, because it was our first season in this group, we said to ourselves that it was even stronger than in the Landes! But hey, we knew how to adapt to the end of the season”, she underlined while expressing her hopes for the next year.

“This season, we didn’t want to smile about a lot of things. But it’s a beautiful page that is turning, we’ll see about the next page, added Fleets. We’re going to take the time to think carefully about what want the girls, what we want, what the club wants to see our young people too, because they are the future “And in addition to having already allowed budding basketball players to take their first steps in. the big leagues, the EAB saw Paula Solier (14 years old) flourish in its ranks and win her entry ticket to the France pole. In the footsteps of a certain Leïla Lacan, who could be the first Aveyronnaise drafted during the night from Monday to Tuesday.

At the end of these 22 matches, the bad times have faded into the background. “I’m happy. I’m proud of the girls and that they had this level of determination until the last second”, congratulated Nicolas Flottes. And in an instant, joy, nostalgia and a touch of regret combined to close this chapter, while waiting for the next one.
