Dutch Badminton Players Tabing and Piek Qualify for European Championships for Paris Olympics

Badminton players Robin Tabing and Selena Piek have qualified for the European Championships for the Paris Olympic Games. The Dutch couple reached the semi-finals in the mixed doubles and can therefore no longer be traced in the qualifying rankings.

In the quarter-finals of the European Championships in Saarbrücken, Germany,tafeling and Piek defeated the Spanish pair Ruben Garcia/Lucia Garcia 21-10, 21-11, while the Dutch duo’s biggest competitor – a couple from Singapore – was eliminated early at the Asian Championships.

The official qualifying rankings will be published by the international badminton association on April 30, but according to the Dutch association, Tabing and Piek can no longer be traced. The duo, who won the European title last year and still have a chance of title renewal, are now twelfth.

After the European Championships,Tableing and Piek can prepare for their second Olympic Games as a duo. In 2021, they already participated together in the Games in Tokyo, where they were eliminated in the group stage. For Piek, it will even be her third Games.

Caljouw not to Paris

Mark Caljouw can put his Olympic dream out of his mind. The Dutch number 47 in the world was eliminated in the eighth finals of the European Championship, while he should have won a medal to qualify for Paris. Caljouw lost 21-18, 21-11 to the Dane Anders Antonsen, who is fourth in the world rankings.

Joran Kweekel was also eliminated in the eighth finals of the European Championship. The number 111 in the world rankings lost to the Frenchman Toma Junior Popov (17-21, 21-16, 21-14).
