Badminton players Robin Tabing and Selena Piek have qualified for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris this summer. The Dutch duo reached the semi-finals of the mixed doubles at the European Championships today and due to the loss of the competition at the Asian Championships, Tabing and Piek can no longer be traced in the qualifying rankings.

European Championship medal in the pocket
In the quarter-finals at the European Championships in Saarbrücken, Germany,tafeling/Piek defeated the Spanish couple Ruben Garcia/Lucia Rodriguez 21-10 and 21-11. With this, the numbers 16 in the world rankings secured themselves from the semi-finals and also from a European Championship medal.

While Tabing and Piek qualified for the semi-finals, their direct competition for a ticket to Paris, the Singaporean couple Hee Yong Kai Terry/Tan Wei Han Jessica, lost in the second round at the Asian Championships to the Chinese number one in the world.

The Badminton World Federation (BWF) will publish the final rankings for the Olympic Games in Paris on April 30, but the Dutch duo, currently twelfth in the rankings, can no longer be traced by the competition.

Second Games as a couple
It will be the Dutch mixed doubles’ second appearance together on the Olympic stage after Tokyo 2020. For 32-year-old Piek, it will even be her third Games. In 2016, she played in Rio de Janeiro alongside Eefje Muskens in the women’s doubles and Jacco Arends in the mixed doubles.

Badminton Netherlands is very proud of the Olympic qualification and congratulates Piek en Tabing on this fantastic achievement!
