Before the quarter-final encounter at the ATP Masters tournament in Monte Carlo, Alex de Minaur had good chances against world number one Novak Djokovic. After all, the Australian went into the last encounter in January at United with a 1-1 record and the feeling Having won the Cup in two sets, we went into the match.
At the beginning, both players were looking for their rhythm on serve, but were each able to fend off break chances in their first service game. When it smelled like a tiebreak for Djokovic at 6:5, the Serb had two running opportunities to win the set at 15:40, but had to go over the deuce again in order to consistently use the third chance.
Strange goings-on in the second round. After Djokovic held his first serve game, there were a total of six service losses in a row. With his first service game, the 24-year-old De Minaur made the score 4-4. The game wasn’t high-class, but it was always exciting. Towards the end of the second act, Djokovic was able to increase his level a little and won 7:5, 6:4 after just over two hours.
In the semi-finals, the No. 1 seed in the tournament will meet the winner of the last quarter-final between the No. 8 seeded Norwegian Casper Ruud and the 14th seeded Frenchman Ugo Humbert.
