The former Barcelona star was photographed in civilian clothes outside the pitch as he came to certify that he had not fled.

The Brazilian appeared to be in disguise as he hid his face behind dark sunglasses and a baseball cap.

He was seen smiling as he walked alongside his lawyer Ines Guardiola.

Alves must appear in court every Friday under his bail conditions.

He also had to hand over his Spanish and Brazilian passports so he could not flee Spain.

Alves was released from prison last week after serving just four weeks of his four-and-a-half-year sentence.

He reportedly threw an all-night party at his £4.5 million mansion just hours after his release on €1 million bail.

Alves was convicted of raping a woman, 23, in a Barcelona nightclub in December 2022.

The victim accused Alves of forcing her to have sex in the nightclub’s private bathroom despite begging him to let her go.

He has consistently denied the allegations and insisted that the sexual encounter was consensual.

He received a four-and-a-half-year sentence, far less than the nine years prosecutors had requested and the 12 years Alves’ accuser would have wanted had he been convicted.

But his lawyer won an appeal to release Alves from prison if he respected his bail conditions.

The former Barcelona ace initially struggled to get enough money together despite earning over £45 million during his successful career as his funds were frozen.

But Spanish journalist Marisa Martín Blazquez seems to have spilled the beans on the savior of Alves, a Brazilian magazine.

It is alleged that the publication offered Alves the entire sum of money in exchange for an exclusive interview.

One of the requirements that Alves appears to have agreed to is to ensure that his wife Joana Sanz also speaks to the magazine.

The couple went through a very turbulent two years when Alves publicly admitted to cheating on Sanz with the woman he claims he raped.

Sanz filed for divorce as the star faced rape trial, but continued to support Alves in court claiming she was with him on the night of the allegations.

But it is currently unclear what the couple’s status is after Joana posted a photo with the disgraced footballer.

Spanish media also claims that Sanz visited his ex at his home a few days after his release.

The Barcelona court allowed Alves to leave Brians 2 prison despite his recent conviction for rape.

Alves spent only a few weeks behind bars, but his lawyer Ines Guardiola managed to win an appeal against the four-and-a-half-year prison sentence.

He now lives in the comfort of his £4 million home in Esplugues de LLobregat – a 25-minute drive west of Barcelona – while his lawyers follow the appeal process, reports say.

The bail conditions set by the court stipulate that Alves must remain at least 1,000 meters away from the victim’s home or any other place he frequently goes to.

He is also banned from contacting her and must surrender his Brazilian and Spanish passports.

The court feared that Alves might leave Spain and travel to his native Brazil to try to avoid serving further prison time.

On Wednesday, Ester Garcia, the lawyer for Alves’ rape victim, criticized the decision to grant him bail.

She got angry on RAC1 radio: “I’m very surprised and totally outraged… because it’s as if this is justice for the rich.”

Garcia added: “It is scandalous that they can release a person who they know can come into possession of a million euros in the blink of an eye.

“I am very dissatisfied with this court decision. We will appeal because we believe it does not comply with the law.”

Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva also condemned Alves’ release.

He said: “The money that Daniel Alves has, the money that someone can lend him, cannot buy the offense that a man does to a woman by committing rape.”

This comes as residents of Barcelona – where Alves was once seen as an icon – criticized the court’s ruling to release him on bail.

One woman said: “I think it’s shameful and they are proving once again that women don’t matter, that our rights don’t matter.

“If you have money and you are a man, you can do whatever you want and you won’t have to pay.”

One man also expressed his point of view by saying that “bad” things cannot be forgotten simply because of money.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Brazilian national footballer Dani Alves has been accused of raping a woman in a nightclub in Barcelona on December 30, 2022.

At a trial held in Barcelona in February 2024, the footballer denied the allegations and said the encounter had been consensual.

Held at Barcelona’s Audiencia provincial court, the trial lasted three days and featured the victim, witnesses and experts testifying.

Her accuser told the prosecution that she voluntarily entered the bathroom with him, but that he forced her to stay after she wanted to leave.

She claimed in court that he was aggressive with her, slapping her and insulting her, and then forced her to have sex with him.

After the trial, Alves was found guilty of raping the woman.

He was found guilty on February 22 and sentenced to four and a half years in prison.

The court also ordered Alves to pay the victim 130,000 pounds (150,000 euros) in compensation.

The court said in a statement: “The ruling finds that it has been proven that the victim did not consent and that there is evidence, in addition to the plaintiff’s testimony, to consider the rape proven.”

He had previously been held in pre-trial detention since his arrest on January 20, 2023.

Alves’ lawyers immediately appealed the sentence.

On 20 March 2024, a court in Barcelona released Alves on €1 million (£850,000) bail pending an appeal on his conviction.

His defense is asking for acquittal while the prosecutor wants his prison sentence to be increased to nine years.

There is no date yet for the retrial at Barcelona’s superior court. You can then appeal to the Supreme Court of Madrid.
