After a twelve-goal concert in the extension of last season, Jurečka was warming up at the beginning of the current one. However, the last few weeks have seen him in excellent form. In the last three league matches, he scored five times, including twice from the penalty spot.
“He is in an improving form, and again in a key phase of the season. Last year he scored a total of 20 goals, now with fifteen he has stepped on an even greater number. Depending on the formation, the coaches put him either on the wing or on the wing, but in my opinion he is still a classic striker,” points out Rajnoch.
The coaching staff led by Jindřich Trpišovský is looking for ways to use Jurečka alongside Mojmír Chytil. Rajnoch is clear: “It would be a great luxury if one of them didn’t play.” On Saturday in Slovácko, Jurečka had more finishes from under the tip, he was able to establish himself with a shot from a distance and overall he was more expressive. His center fits more, either on the tip or below it.’
The final and slightly unconventional phase of the season has begun for Slavia. She only competes on one stage, the European Cups and the MOL Cup no longer apply to her. It can therefore be expected that Trpišovský will try to stabilize the lineup, and without the use of significant rotation, as is the custom in (not only) Slavia during a busy schedule.
And it is Jurečka who is competing with Chytil, Mick van Buren, Muhamed Tijani and other offensive fighters for a place in the starting eleven. “Venca is a terribly honest and intelligent boy, he has built a career from Opava and Slovácko, he really does his best. We see it growing. In Slovakia, it suited him that he played on breaks. In Slavia, it took him a while to adjust to the system, but he is still a natural goalscorer. I can’t see into the heads of the coaches, but as I say, in my eyes he should play at the top,” adds Rajnoch.
Of course, the question arises as to whether Jurečka is talking about a foreign engagement. In the European League with the preliminary rounds, he scored three goals in eleven duels in the current season, which is certainly nothing sad, but the numbers are lower compared to the domestic scene.
“I wouldn’t be afraid to compare Venc with David Lafata. This is nothing against anyone, some players are simply exceptional in our competition. Maybe he would adapt and improve abroad, but some people like our environment, feel better in it, have confidence,” says Rajnoch.
“David also played in Austria, but he had the greatest success here. I repeat, nothing bad, after all, he is a legend of Sparta and the entire Czech league. With Venc, it seems to me that the level of foreign football is not quite for him. But maybe I’m wrong, maybe he’ll get a chance and make it. As I say, he is hard-working, he can adapt and maybe he would work abroad,” says the former national team defender about the Slavia forward.
And of course the national team and the approaching Euro in Germany are at stake. Jurečka did not fit into the first nomination of new coach Ivan Hašek in March, but everything can change during the spring. As the coaches themselves say, the current form will decide.
“An interesting situation arose for Hašek. Previously, these positions were clear, now there are far more offensive options. We also have to see how the national team will play. And Venca is a break player who can force his way into an open defense. If his form holds up, there is definitely a possibility of his inclusion in the Euros,” states Rajnoch.
Jurečka will have to make his mark in competition with Patrik Schick, Tomáš Choré, Mojmír Chytil, Jan Kuchta, Adam Hložek or Pavel Šulec.
“Schick is clear. If we are talking about the players with the best form at the moment, then Tomáš Chorý, who made his mark last time with Armenia and was really absent from Pilsen at the weekend due to cards. At the weekend, Tomáš Čvančara stepped in after an injury in Mönchengladbach, who probably has the most difficult position. There are enough boys in form, Hašek has not had such a selection of quality strikers for the national team for a long time,” sums up Rajnoch.
