Detroit Pistons: On Pace for Worst Season in Franchise History

It often happens in the NBA that a timeout is taken to celebrate a record. This is particularly the case when it is at home. It’s an opportunity to commune with the fans and celebrate the record with the bench. But it is not certain that this was the case last night at Little Caesars Arena when the Pistons validated the worst record of the franchise in the defeat against the Bulls.

The 2023-24 Pistons are doing worse than the 1979-80 Pistons. At the time, Detroit had recorded 66 defeats for 16 victories. Monty Williams’ players are currently at 13 wins and 67 losses to surely finish last in the league, since the Wizards already have 15 wins on the clock. Earlier in the season, the Pistons had already recorded another (sad) record: that of the worst losing streak in NBA history. with 28 games without a win from the end of October to the end of December.

“We have to try to keep a good state of mind”, insists Marcus Sasser “We must not sacrifice anyone or take it out on each other. We have all gone through complicated times together individually and collectively. But I feel like we all need to stay together as a group. We need to get through these times together and make things better in the end. »

Prepare for next season

This season, the Pistons used no fewer than 30 players (another franchise record), and Monty Williams spent the season tinkering to find a formula that would allow Detroit to progress. At the very end of the season, the former Suns coach continues to evaluate the players who could make up the squad next year.

“You can learn a lot about players at this time of year”, estime Monty Williams. “I know for me, I made a lot of money (as a player) by playing through the season and hanging in there. »

Marcus Sasser, author of 20 points last night “take nothing for granted” he explains. “I feel lucky every time I play in the NBA so every time I play I give it my all. I know we only have a few games left, but I’m trying to learn and continue to improve. I’m getting ready for next season. »

The Pistons will obviously have a very high Draft choice to bring talent to the current squad and try to establish a better record. The last time they got close to 50% wins was in 2019 with Dwane Casey (41-41).
