Dennis Novak Prevails in Challenger Tournament Opener; Lukas Neumayer Faces Injury Setback

Dennis Novak got off to a good start in the Challenger tournament in Oeiras, Portugal: The Austrian beat eighth-seeded Juan Martin Cerundolo 6:3, 6:2 in the first round.

After the victory over the Argentinian, who was better ranked in the 64th ATP world rankings, Novak will now face the winner of the duel Franco Agamenone (ITA) against Geoffrey Blancaneaux (FRA). Both opponents are ranked quite close to Novak (217) as numbers 214 and 218.

However, there is no good news from Lukas Neumayer, who had to retire injured in the final qualifying round of the tournament. When the score was 3:3 in the first set against the Italian Samuel Vincent Ruggeri, back pain became acute. An investigation should now provide more precise information.

The 21-year-old’s next planned tournament would be next week in Ostrava, Czech Republic.
