Denmark’s three best men’s singles continued their safe style at the European Championships in badminton on Thursday, when Viktor Axelsen, Anders Antonsen and Rasmus Gemke all advanced from the round of 16 with safe victories in Saarbrücken, Germany.

The last Danish men’s singles player, Magnus Johannesen, had the opportunity to make it four in a row later on Thursday, but the 22-year-old Dane lost 19-21, 21-12, 19-21 to Ade Resky Dwicahyo from Azerbaijan.

Viktor Axelsen had earlier on Thursday taken the third Danish victory when he beat Finnish Kalle Koljonen 21-14, 21-9 in the round of 16 of the tournament.

The Danish world number one showed from the start that he was a level above his Finnish opponent. Axelsen won eight points in a row in the first set, which Koljonen never recovered from.

In the second set, Axelsen took a 7-0 lead, and from there it was a matter of form for the Dane to continue in the tournament.

Rasmus Gemke and Anders Antonsen had both previously also played through from the round of 16.

Gemke easily beat Switzerland’s Tobias Kuenzi 21-15, 21-11.

Anders Antonsen also made short work and swept his opponent, Dutch Mark Caljouw, off the court in two sets, 21-18, 21-11.
