D’Angelo Russell to Reject Player Option and Test Free Agency in 2024, ESPN Reports

D’Angelo Russell points to the next free agency of 2024, reported journalist Brian Windhorst of the outlet ESPN. Although the player has already expressed his desire to continue with the Lakers, he will choose to reject his ‘player option’ of $18 million (2024-25) to negotiate a new long-term commitment.

“I think it is almost certain that he will not execute his option,” admitted the aforementioned Windhorst. “You work your whole life to have a great season and not have restrictions (to negotiate),” he added.

Since the recess of All-Star Weekend He is averaging 20.1 points, 6.3 assists and 44 rebounds in 22 official games.

For their part, the Lakers are in the fight for play-in spots, currently being 9th in the West with a record of 45-34.
