Cuban Sports Legends in Paris for Adidas Olympic Gala

Paris France: Three stellar Cuban sports figures, Mijaín López, Javier Sotomayor and Ana Fidelia Quirós, arrived this Tuesday around 1:00 PM (local time) in this city, to participate in the gala where the company ADIDAS will present its line of equipment for the Olympic Games to be held from July 26 to August 11 on French soil.

Omar Venegas Echemendía, Vice President of INDER, who is in this country with the objective of carrying out coordination prior to the Olympic event, welcomed these three symbols of our sports movement.

This prestigious brand will once again dress a Cuban delegation, so the island is represented in this relaunch by a small delegation and by these three legends, invited among the 82 of international sports.

The central activity will take place this Thursday in the Adidas Arena, a stage that will host three disciplines in the upcoming event under the five rings, artistic gymnastics, badminton and weightlifting.

For the “Prince of Heights”, Javier Sotomayor, this is another recognition in his fruitful career. The world record holder in High Jump, has a special affinity with this renowned brand, with which he won his Olympic title in the 1992 Barcelona edition and the silver medal in Atlanta 1996, as well as 2 outdoor world championships and another 4 under ceiling.

“I am happy and grateful that they have invited me to this gala, once again Adidas will dress Cuba. In my case I always competed with this brand, they even made me some special shoes with my name.”

The “Storm of the Caribbean”, Ana Fidelia Quirós also experienced the main moments of her career wearing Adidas. The stellar 800 meter dash runner, she had among her most important results the two Olympic medals, silver in Atlanta 1996 and bronze in Barcelona 1992, as well as the two world titles.

“It is a great honor to be in this select group of Cuban athletes for this relaunch of this brand, a few months before the celebration of the Paris Olympic Games.”

Cuba will wear Adidas again after several years, although sports sponsored with other brands will comply with the commitment agreed in the competition scenarios.

Cuban and world sports stars, Mijaín López, Javier Sotomayor and Ana Fidelia Quirós, are already in the “city of light” to participate in the gala where the Adidas company will present its equipment for the upcoming Olympic Games.
