With a view to reconnecting the Saâne to the sea, which will lead to a change in living space and the landscape, a pond was created near the Sainte-Marguerite-sur-Mer wastewater treatment plant (Seine- Maritime). This 600 m² pond will notably serve as a refuge area for certain animal species such as amphibians and dragonflies, but also for flora.

Additional plantings

The marshy areas that will develop once reconnection is achieved will not allow certain species to grow. The pond created along the GR212 will also aim to collect excess water from the valley installed upstream.

The project was carried out by the Saâne, Vienne and Scie watershed union over around ten days. The technicians cleared the land before carrying out the earthworks. Plantations will consolidate the body of water and its banks.

The work was 80% financed by the Water Agency and an agreement was signed with the Terroir-de-Caux community of communes, owner of the land. In order to preserve the living space, the public is asked not to introduce fish or turtles into the pond. Goldfish and roaches love to eat dragonfly eggs and larvae.
