Coparmex asks not to touch housing savings from inactive accounts – El Sol de México

The Employers’ Confederation of the Mexican Republic (Coparmex) called for the resources of the housing subaccount of workers who are 70 years old and who have not claimed this right, not to be transferred to the Pension Fund for Wellbeing, as proposed the opinion that will be discussed this Monday in the Plenary Session of the Chamber of Deputies.

Through a statement, the employers’ sector explained that Morena’s proposal violates the rights of workers regarding housing savings, which employers contribute to the housing subaccount. It indicates that these resources should remain in Infonavit and not in the new pension fund.

“This is contrary to the Constitution, which establishes that the 5% employer contribution is exclusive for workers’ housing and the power to manage these resources falls to Infonavit.”

Coparmex suggested creating a Tripartite Technical Committee that is made up of representatives of the business sector, unions and the government to make a consensus decision on the use and destination of the resources from the housing subaccount of inactive accounts.

“The existence of tripartite committees is a common practice in pension funds. Particularly, there is the case of the Fund to Support the Housing Needs of Workers (FANVIT) of Infonavit, which has a specialized investment committee with a tripartite composition and which adheres to the legally established investment regime.

The Plenary Session of the Chamber of Deputies will discuss this Monday the opinion that proposes creating a Pension Fund for Wellbeing, which seeks to complete the pensions of people who retire under the 1997 regime in the case of people who contribute to the IMSS and for the 2007 regime for people affiliated with the ISSSTE.

This fund will be financed, in part, with the resources from the inactive accounts of people aged 70 or over who have not withdrawn their resources from Infonavit and the Afore.

In the discussion of this reform, the Mexican Association of Afores (Amafore) itself recognized that the dialogue with legislators to create this fund, which they assure does not imply an expropriation of resources. They recognized that it was added to the reform initiative that the active accounts of people over 70 years old be kept within the Afores and not transferred to the Fund.
