The Cologne Cardinals win 5-1 against the guests from Hamburg, who were in a good mood recently, and thus get their first win of the season. The basis for the Rhinelander’s success in their home Circlewood Stadium was a strong performance from Cologne’s starting pitcher Florian Kawczynski. The Cologne native stayed on the pitch for seven innings and only gave up five hits and one run. He sent seven opposing batters back into the dugout with a strikeout.

The home team had already taken the lead in the first inning after a solo home run by Evan Antonellis. In the fourth inning, Niklas Piontek extended the score by two runs with an RBI single. The only run for the Hanseatic League came courtesy of an error by Cologne first baseman Moritz Jödicke in the fifth inning. But the home team did not let this unsettle them. In the eighth inning, Carl Wenzel scored the final score with a 2-run single.

Despite a good performance, Hamburg’s Simon Bäumer suffered the loss. The lefty gave up four hits, three walks and three runs in seven innings. He had nine strikeouts.
