It’s official: Lakers, Warriors headed to play-in; Clippers vs. Mavericks set for first round

LeBron James and Stephen Curry will be participating in the Play-In game.

If the Warriors win their final three games against Portland, New Orleans, and Utah, they will rank higher than the Lakers as the 9th seed (due to owning the tiebreaker) and have the opportunity to host a 9/10 game. This gives Golden State control over their own fate. The Lakers, on the other hand, will finish the season by playing against Memphis and New Orleans.

This will be the third playoff matchup between these teams in the past five years. In 2021, Dallas won the first two games and seemed to have the upper hand. However, the Clippers bounced back and won four of the next five games, ultimately advancing to the next round. Kawhi Leonard led the way for Los Angeles with 28 points in a Game 7 victory. Luka Doncic put up impressive numbers for Dallas, averaging 35.7 points, 10.3 assists, and 7.9 rebounds per game throughout the series.

If Kawhi Leonard comes back in good health, this first-round series will be a must-see.

Steve Kerr expressed that without the Play-In this year, their team would have very little left to play for. He mentioned that although he previously didn’t appreciate it when it didn’t favor them, he now genuinely enjoys it. He made these comments before his team’s victory against the Lakers on Tuesday night.

The next playoff series has been determined: The Los Angeles Clippers, seeded fourth, will face off against the fifth-seeded Dallas Mavericks in an exciting first-round matchup.

During the 2020 season, the Clippers were able to defeat the Mavericks in six games, thanks to Leonard’s impressive performance. He averaged 32.8 points and 10.2 rebounds per game. Both teams’ seedings for the Play-In remain up in the air, but if it started today the No. 9 seed Lakers and No. 10 seed Warriors would face off in the first game of the Play-In — the loser goes home. Season over. The winner of that first game then would have to win a second game (against the loser of Phoenix/Sacramento) to get in as the No. 8 seed (and likely face Denver in the first round, which is in the driver’s seat for the No. 1 seed Also put “I won

I emerged victorious against Minnesota on Wednesday. Additionally, please add “I won.” ).

The Phoenix Suns defeated the Clippers on Wednesday, who were missing their top three players due to rest. As a result, the Lakers and Warriors are no longer able to catch up to Phoenix, who currently holds the No. 7 spot. Additionally, they cannot surpass New Orleans, who currently holds the No. 6 spot. This means that both the Lakers and Warriors will have to participate in the Play-In and earn their spot in the playoffs instead of automatically qualifying.

Both the Warriors and Lakers are aiming to advance to the eighth spot in the standings. They will have to secure a win in one of their two remaining games in order to make it to the playoffs. By doing so, they would also have the opportunity to avoid facing the Nuggets in the first round and potentially secure the seventh seed. However, they will require assistance from the struggling Kings in order to do so. The current half-game lead that Sacramento holds over the Lakers and the one game lead over the Warriors, combined with owning the tiebreaker over both teams, puts the pressure on the Kings to lose at least two of their upcoming games (or possibly all three). Sacramento’s remaining schedule includes matchups with the Pelicans and Suns, two teams still competing for seeding, before closing out the season against the Trail Blazers on Sunday.

Last season, the Lakers competed in the Play-In tournament as the No. 7 seed and secured their spot in the Western Conference Finals after defeating the Minnesota Timberwolves in overtime. They went on to defeat the Grizzlies, who were missing key players Ja Morant and Steven Adams, and the Golden State Warriors.
