Clippers’ Coaching Shines in NBA Playoff Opener Against Mavericks

NBA: The coaching speaks clearly for the Clippers

After the game, Mavs coach Jason Kidd was largely in agreement with his team’s defense after the initial problems. Sure, this game was lost primarily on offense, where Dallas was too dependent on its two stars. All role players had problems, especially Daniel Gafford (1/4 FG), Derrick Jones Jr. (0/4), Dante Exum (1/4) and Maxi Kleber (1/5).

The Würzburger was not taken into account at all by the Clippers, the results proved LA right. The only bright spot was PJ Washington (11), who again had a huge spread in his throws (2/7), but was the Mavs’ best defender. It also became clear that Kidd doesn’t have a rotation set in stone.

The coach changed a lot, played ten players, tried a lot of things, but a clear vision was only visible to a limited extent. It is Kidd’s fourth playoff series with Dallas, the fourth time they lost in the opener, but after that there were two series wins. Kidd himself didn’t cut the best figure either; in addition to his rotation roulette, the coach, among other things, didn’t take his own time-out for more than ten minutes in the second quarter – despite the extremely lame offense. On the other side, Ty Lue was extremely proactive and it felt like the Clippers were making a run after every timeout. The Clippers simply have a huge advantage on the sideline, there’s no other way to put it, and it will put Kidd in the spotlight in the summer should Dallas be eliminated in round one.
