Christine Mboma returns to Kenya after 20 months of absence

Namibian sprinter Christine Mboma, Olympic vice-champion in the 200m in Tokyo in 2021, will make her return, in the 100m, during the Kip Keino Classic in Kenya after an absence of 20 months. The first Namibian woman to medal at the Olympics, she has not competed since the Commonwealth Games in August 2022 in Birmingham, England, where she won bronze in the half-lap.

Mboma, 20, is considered DSD (having “differences in her sexual development”) and, a 400m specialist, had moved to the 200m due to regulations on hyperandrogenic athletes.

Treatment to lower testosterone levels

In 2023, World Athletics changed its regulations and decided that all athletes with DSD could not participate in women’s competitions until they reduced their testosterone levels for a period of 6 to 24 months.

Mboma indicated last year that she was undergoing treatment to lower her rate. Previously, his 2022 season was disrupted following an adductor injury.
