Classic head-to-tail, Livorno sails at the top of the table while Cenaia lies at the bottom of the table with the worst attack and the worst defense. On paper the match would have no history but as football lovers well know, nothing is ever taken for granted in a sport where surprises are around the corner.
For the occasion, the game will be played on the neutral ground in Pontedera, a nice venue large enough to host the event. The sector commonly used for guests will be dedicated to the Livorno residents while the home team will occupy the stands. The game is played on Thursday afternoon, not exactly the ideal day for a football match, especially if it concerns the Serie D championship which, to be honest, is one of the amateur championships with all that entails: in the very first instance we it should be considered that the protagonists in the field, by necessity, have to study or work, which is why they could have problems being present at the meeting. Perhaps reevaluating one’s decisions and putting the needs of players and fans before mere market logic would be an important step, to consider themselves serious and reliable interlocutors but evidently football, not yet, has many gaps from these points of view.
If some player has to bend over backwards to show up on a Thursday afternoon to play an amateur match, the problems are the same for the fans too, the people of Livorno are granted five hundred tickets and as a matter of fact some of these remain unsold, which is a pity because in other days and at other times the audience setting could be different. Nowadays we honestly pay little attention to the dates and times of the match, we are so accustomed to the problem that it seems like we have opened Pandora’s box some time ago. Despite many beautiful catchphrases, we prefer an egg today without even worrying about the immediate future, the lack of planning is evident and under everyone’s eyes with some sporting results at national level which are clear and irrefutable proof of this .
Despite the team being last in the standings, the Torboneros, a group of very young people who follow the fortunes of Cenaia: their presence is assured but on a vocal level they are not heard. Congratulations anyway for having embarked on this project, if they persevere in their intent we can only applaud them for the consistency they have shown.
The people of Livorno are the protagonists of the afternoon and it couldn’t have been otherwise, the support is continuous as is the waving of a couple of flags but the team on the pitch disappoints quite a bit, only managing to grab a draw which could definitively mean farewell to the dreams of glory of a possible promotion. At the end of the match, the bitterness that permeates the sector is clear but despite this, the protest against a team that reveals considerable technical limitations does not begin. What keeps the hope of promotion alive is mathematics and that sporting miracle that cannot be ruled out. But we must necessarily talk about a miracle. In miracles we must necessarily hope.
