Celebrating Inclusion: The Annual Adapted Judo Tournament for Athletes with Mental Disabilities

The adapted Judo tournament has become the unmissable event for athletes with mental disabilities. This Sunday, April 21, 2024, the Mons Provincial Sports House will welcome more than 100 athletes for this new edition.

It’s a day about sport but also about inclusion. The objective of this competition is to include people with disabilities in sport. “Everyone has their place, both on the mat and on the football field.” explains Olivier Duplouy, sports manager.

This adapted tournament is the largest tournament organized in the Wallonia-Brussels Federation. Group training will be offered in the morning. He will be supervised by Anne-Sophie Jura from Mons, former European and international champion, and with official referees. “It is complicated for people with a disability to be able to manage their body, master and retain different positions. Judo is very strict. There are many levels and categories. There is goodwill around this sport to support all these athletes.”

As for the competition itself, it will take place in the afternoon. “We have participants who made the World Games in Berlin this year. They got a good fourth place, it’s exceptional” enthuses Olivier Duplouy.
