Bundesliga No official championship celebration at the weekend in Leverkusen

If Bayer Leverkusen becomes champions this weekend, there will be no official celebration yet. The city is preparing for more visitors to the stadium, but there will be no public viewing.
The big championship party still has to wait. In the event that Bayer Leverkusen replaces FC Bayern Munich as German football champions this weekend after eleven titles in a row, at least no major party is planned. A spokeswoman justified this with the quarter-final second leg of the Europa League next Thursday at West Ham United.
In order to secure the first championship title in the club’s history on matchday 29, the Bundesliga leaders need a win or a point against Werder Bremen on Sunday, should their pursuers Bayern Munich and VfB Stuttgart only play a draw on Saturday. If both lose on Saturday, Leverkusen would be champions early. The team will celebrate the championship they have won spontaneously, but on a smaller scale. There are no parties officially planned.
There will also be no public viewing in the city for fans who cannot come to the stadium on Sunday against Werder (5:30 p.m.). Mayor Uwe Richrath (SPD) will be excited in the BayArena. “Now it’s time to keep your fingers crossed. Maybe Bayer 04 Leverkusen and their Werkself will fulfill their big dream on Sunday. A celebration for the club, the city and, above all, the fans. So everyone in Leverkusen will definitely be excited on Sunday,” Richrath said.
The city is preparing for a higher volume of visitors around Sunday’s game. The usual street closures in the city center have been adjusted and apply four hours before the start of the game.
