Bundesliga and Foreign Clubs Eyeing Hamburg’s László Bénes

Interest from the Bundesliga and abroad

Without László Bénes, hardly anything works at Hamburger SV. The 26-year-old midfielder delivered 15 goals and twelve assists in 27 competitive games for the second division club this season, making him one of the top three scorers alongside Marcel Hartel (FC St. Pauli) and Christos Tzolis (Fortuna Düsseldorf). If Hamburg misses promotion in the sixth attempt since their first Bundesliga relegation in 2018, Bénes cannot be retained despite a contract valid until 2026.

As Transfermarkt has learned, the Slovakian’s contract, which is still valid for two years, includes a very low release clause for this summer. Accordingly, Bénes can leave HSV in 2024 for a sum in the low single-digit million range – below his market value. In the last update in the 2nd league, the national player made a jump from 4 million to 5 million euros. This makes him the most valuable professional at Volkspark alongside his midfield colleague Ludovit Reis (23).

According to information from our editorial team, two Bundesliga clubs have already expressed specific interest in Bénes. In addition, several foreign clubs, including Feyenoord Rotterdam from the Eredivisie and Genoa CFC as well as AC Monza from Serie A, are courting the services of the Hamburg top performer, who can particularly exploit his strengths in the headquarters.

Courted László Bénes will play first-class in 2024/25 – with or without HSV

If HSV, currently fourth in the table, manages to make the long-awaited return to the Bundesliga, there is a good chance that Bénes will play with the North Germans to stay in the league. Otherwise, the professional will be drawn away from the metropolis because he doesn’t see himself in the second league for a third year in a row.

Bénes moved from Borussia Mönchengladbach to HSV in 2022 for 1.5 million euros – the traditional club only spent more on seven players in its second division history. While the left-footer, who will play with Slovakia in Group E at the European Championships in Germany against Belgium, Romania and Ukraine, came off the bench 14 times last season, he is the undisputed regular player at HSV this season.
