James was expected to make a big impact at USC after earning McDonald’s All American honors in high school, but an episode of cardiac arrest in July and a procedure to treat a congenital heart defect sidelined him for five months and severely affected his productivity as a freshman at USC.

James averaged 4.8 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.1 assists in 19 minutes per game.

USC coach Andy Enfield recently left for SMU, and the Trojans hired Arkansas’ Eric Musselman on Thursday.

After cardiac arrest and cardiac procedure, James will need to be evaluated and approved by the NBA’s fitness to play panel before he can be eligible to participate in team workouts or the draft combine in May or be selected in the draft.

You can conduct interviews with teams without medical clearance, but the NBA’s new collective bargaining agreement requires that players invited to the draft combine to participate in the team scouting event and undergo a physical examination.

The pre-draft plan will be for James to meet with specific teams for training and interviews ahead of the May 31 deadline to remain in the draft and find out if there is a potential developmental situation, regardless of his draft position, that would make sense for him to remain in the draft.

Agent Rich Paul, who is CEO of Klutch Sports and will represent James, told ESPN in March: “I don’t value a young player entering the lottery as much as including him on the right team.” in the appropriate development situation”.

Paul also represents Bronny’s father, LeBron James. One factor that will not influence Bronny’s decision: the requirement that he end up playing on the same team as his father.

“LeBron wants Bronny be your own man,” Paul added to ESPN in March.

If Bronny James decides to return to college and transfer elsewhere, Duquesne is expected to be among his top considerations, sources revealed. New Duquesne coach Dru Joyce was a high school teammate of LeBron and is a long-time friend of the James family. Joyce was promoted to head coach after Keith Dambrot retired following an Atlantic 10 championship and a run to the NCAA tournament. Dambrot was James and Joyce’s high school coach at St. Vincent-St. Maria in Akron, Ohio.
