Brest wants to play the European Cup… in Brest

As the Championship draws to a close, Stade Brestois has never been so close to qualifying for the European Cup for the first time. But, as revealed Monday in our columns, the Francis-Le Blé stadium is not completely up to standard, the Breton club would have to make do with 5,000 seats or relocate.

Brest, however, does not see it that way and the club communicated this Friday to demonstrate its desire to play at home and prove that its den is capable of receiving clubs of continental scope. “Aware that the Francis-Le Blé stadium has never hosted matches at European level but with its capacity to host Ligue 1 Championship matches in complete safety, significant developments and investments for the implementation standards are necessary,” assure the Pirates, with the support of Mayor François Cuillandre (PS).

“We are already in the investigation phase on the various points of improvement and difficulties that have been specified to us,” they continue. In this context, specifically regarding the stands of the Francis-Le Blé stadium, the nature of which questions the European football body, we sent UEFA a technical file, as well as a video, which demonstrates the quality of this equipment, and the capacity of the stadium to host a European competition. The mayor of Brest, François Cuillandre, like the president of Stade Brestois, Denis Le Saint, does not wish to play anywhere other than Brest at any time if the club qualifies for a European competition. »
