Breaking Barriers: The Inclusive World of Archery at Seveso’s Oak Forest Archers

Slow down on the Seveso. What connection exists between a bow and a person with a disability? Actually, there’s a lot of it. Archery represents one of the sporting disciplines most inclusive in the worldoffering the opportunity to individuals with physical and intellectual-relational disabilities to practice sport at all levels, even up to Paralympics. The Seveso company Oak Forest Archers has always sought and promoted this inclusiveness. Thanks to the commitment of President Graziano Giaccheri and the always available technicians, the company has developed various projects dedicated to people with disabilities.

On the one hand, there are specific courses for wheelchair users and amputees, allowing them to train and compete together with able-bodied people on the same shooting line. On the other hand, ad hoc courses have been organized for people with Trisomy 21 or autistic children, creating spaces where the well-being of the participant is a priority, promoting inclusion by respecting individual characteristics and trying to involve in the world of sport even those who are usually excluded a priori.

To implement these projects, the company benefited from the full collaboration of the Municipality of Seveso, the Mayor and the Councillors. Using the gym of the Don Giussani school, equipped with a lift, and the new field in via Ortles, the Asd Arcieri Bosco delle Querce can continue to pursue its objectives, welcoming more and more people, children and adults, with the desire to spread the whole community the great value of inclusiveness.
