Brazilian Basketball Confederation Announces Departure of Men’s Team Coach Ahead of Pre-Olympic Tournament

Rio de Janeiro, April 17 (EFE).- The Brazilian Basketball Confederation (CBB) announced this Wednesday the departure of Gustavo de Conti as coach of the men’s team after two and a half years in the position.

The announcement comes a month and a half before the Pre-Olympic tournament, which will be held in Latvia. The Canarinha will have its last opportunity to seek a place for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

“Today I finish a cycle as coach of the Brazilian team. It was an honor to live this dream,” De Conti wrote on social networks after the announcement of his departure.

The confederation said in a statement that the decision was made “by mutual agreement” and said that his replacement would be announced soon.

Under the command of the Brazilian coach, the Canarinha ended up eliminated in the qualifying phase at the World Cup in Budapest, so now the team depends on the pre-Olympic tournament to reach Paris.

The Riga pre-Olympic, which will be held between July 2 and 7, will be one of the four scheduled before the Paris Games and in which 24 countries will compete for the last four places in the city of lights.
