WTA BOGOTÁ – Marie Bouzková (25) has already lost her fifth out of six final matches and is still waiting for her first triumph away from home. In Bogotá, the top-ranked Czech was not enough in the first final on clay against domestic Camila Osoriová (22), who won 6:3, 7:6 and, after winning in 2021, won her second trophy in the Colombian capital.

Bouzková – Osoriová 3:6, 6:7

Marie Bouzková recorded the best result of the season at the first event immediately after the end of cooperation with former Wimbledon champion Conchita Martínez and the transfer of former Slovenian tennis player Mike Urbanija to the role of head coach. After six months, she won more than two matches in a row and finally lost to the last fifth opponent.

At the WTA 250 tournament in Bogota, the 25-year-old Czech played the role of the number one seed and after a series of setbacks, she raised her confidence at the beginning of the clay spring. She claimed the scalps of Canadian Rebeka Marin, American Hailey Baptiste, German veteran Laura Siegemund and Russian Kamilla Rachimov.

She was not enough except for Camila Osoriová, driven by the home crowd. While she dominated the previous two duels in 2022 on the hard surface and lost only four games each time, she could not find the recipe for the three-year-younger Colombian on clay.

Bouzková entered the duel with a break, but then lost four games in a row and could not save the first set, in which she committed a high number of 10 unforced errors for her standards. In the second act, she turned 10 fifths in a row from 0:2 to 3:2, in the 12th game, after a great combination of strokes, she averted a match point with a winner and forced a tie-break.

But she did not find the strength to turn around, because on Saturday after the winning semi-final she played an unsuccessful doubles match in the evening and the Sunday final started shortly after noon. At the second match point, the still nervous Osori made her seventh double fault, but on the third attempt she ended the match and could start celebrating together with the fans.

This week, Bouzková played in the quarterfinals of the WTA tournament for the eighteenth time in her career, but only now in the Colombian capital for the first time on clay. So far she has not won more than two matches in a row on the main circuit on the slowest surface, she won four times in Bogota.

The ever-smiling Czech played the final at the WTA tournament for the sixth time in her career and for the first time outside the outdoor hard court. However, for the fifth time during the ceremony, she only received a smaller trophy for the defeated finalist.

So far, she celebrated her only triumph at the domestic Livesport Prague Open 2022, on the other hand, she also failed in Monterrey 2020, Mexico, at the Phillip Island Trophy in Melbourne, Australia 2021, in Guadalajara, Mexico 2022, and in Nanchang, China 2023.

Bouzková will move to 35th place in the world rankings and after a week of rest, she will try to build on her improved performances at the WTA 250 tournament in Rouen, France, and then at the 1,000 in Madrid.

Twenty-two-year-old Colombian Osori defeated Bouzková, the two-time defending champion of Germany, Tatiana Maria, and former Roland Garros finalist Sara Errani from Italy, turning her fourth final into her second WTA tournament title. She celebrated for the first time three years ago also in Bogotá.
