Bonn Capitals Celebrate Double Victory with Dominant Pitching Performance

After two wins in Paderborn and Hamburg, the Bonn Capitals were able to celebrate twice for the first time in this young season in the Baseball Bundesliga. Coach Stan Exeter’s team won against the Dohren Wild Farmers 2-1 and 3-0 in their first appearances in front of their home crowd this season. The Bonn pitchers were the main guarantee for the victories. In the second game on Sunday, Niklas Rimmel even managed a so-called no hitter. The Bonn pitcher didn’t have to accept a single hit from the guests in seven innings.

Due to the weather, the schedule on Saturday in the Rheinaue was literally canceled, so that both games, each shortened to seven innings, had to be played on Sunday. This circumstance gave the Capitals the opportunity to let their starting pitchers Markus Solbach and Rimmel play in both games. “Our pitching was very effective today and the guarantee for both successes,” praised Exeter. “Congratulations especially to Niklas for his no hitter,” added the Bonn head coach, who had little to criticize. “It’s just that our offense has to make better use of its chances with two out.”

Offensive still has room for improvement

It had already become clear recently that the Bonn offensive still has room for improvement. And so on Sunday some runners were stranded on the bases without being able to cross home plate. In addition to Solbach on the mound, Daniel Sanchez and Danny Lankhorst were responsible for the 2-1 win in game one with their hits, which Sanchez and Daniel Lamb-Hunt each brought home. The other offensive players also recorded hits, but they did not lead to points. Things got tight in the fifth inning when Maik Ehmcke was able to shorten the score to 1:2 with a home run for the guests. But with two of his nine strikeouts, Solbach closed the sack in the seventh inning.

In game two the guarantees of victory were Rimmel and Josef Rosenthal. Rimmel didn’t allow a single hit in his seven innings. He also threw eleven strikeouts. A no hitter actually only counts over the full distance of nine innings. “But a no hitter is a no hitter,” said the Bonn coach. Rosenthal was responsible for two of the three points. First he made it 1-0 and also made it 3-0. However, the Capitals benefited from a mistake in the Dohren defense. After Eric Kunze hit the ball fell to the ground and Sanchez and Rosenthal ran home to make it 3-0. The Caps have no games next weekend.
