Los Angeles Lakers Fire Coach Darvin Ham After Playoff Exit

After being eliminated in the first round of the playoffs, the Los Angeles Lakers have fired their coach Darvin Ham.

The NBA franchise announced this on Friday. The Lakers and their top star LeBron James failed 4-1 in the first round against the Denver Nuggets, and last year they also lost out to the Nuggets in the Western Conference finals.

Ham’s contract would have been valid until 2026; the 50-year-old succeeded Frank Vogel in June 2022. “We greatly appreciate Darvin’s commitment to the Lakers and recognize the many successes achieved over the past two seasons, including last year’s remarkable run to the Western Conference Finals,” said Lakers Vice President Rob Pelinka “This was a difficult decision, but after a full review of the season, it is the best course of action. This organization will remain steadfast in its commitment to providing championship-caliber basketball to Lakers fans around the world.”

It is still unclear who will succeed Ham – but above all, the Lakers have to try to keep their top star LeBron James. The 39-year-old could enter his final year of contract in LA – or draw a release clause and move again. James’ big dream is to play with his son Bronny in the best league in the world. The 19-year-old will take part in this year’s NBA draft.
