Blue Jays’ Offense Limited to Two Hits in 4-2 Loss to Dodgers

The Blue Jays’ offense was limited to two hits and Toronto lost 4-2 to the Los Angeles Dodgers on Saturday afternoon, suffering a fifth straight loss.

The Jays haven’t scored more than two runs during that stretch and haven’t led a game in 37 innings, which is the longest streak in team history. For their part, the Dodgers won their sixth game in a row.

Tyler Glasnow (5-1) muzzled the Blue Jays (13-15) hitters in six innings of work, spacing two hits and one earned run, in addition to striking out nine batters. Davis Schneider produced the Jays’ first run in the bottom of the 7th inning to end Glasnow’s day.

“I think you’re still in it as long as 27 outs haven’t been made,” Schneider said. We came up short this time, but you have to fight until the end. »

Joe Kelly, Tyler Brasier and Evan Phillips took turns pitching in relief. Phillips earned the save, his 8th of the season, even though he gave up a productive single to Cavan Biggio in the bottom of the 9th to allow Schneider to close the gap.

The top of the Blue Jays lineup had another outing to forget. Bo Bichette was unable to reach in four at-bats, while Vladimir Guerrero Jr. hit a double but was struck out in his other three at-bats.

Daulton Varsho and Justin Turner were also shut out in four appearances. In total, Jays batters were struck out 15 times during the game.

On the other hand, the tenors of the Dodgers (18-11) once again lived up to their reputation. Mookie Betts, Freddie Freeman and Shohei Ohtani drove in a run each in the win. Betts finished his day with three hits in five appearances, punctuating everything with a triple and a stolen base.

Ohtani was once again heavily booed by the 39,405 fans present at the Rogers Center when his name was announced. The Japanese finished the game with a hit and an RBI in five at-bats.

Blue Jays starter Yusei Kikuchi (2-2) collected four earned runs in six innings of work. He gave up nine hits, no walks, and struck out only three batters.

In relief, Genesis Cabrera, Yimi Garcia, Jordan Romano and Nate Pearson pitched for the remaining three innings.
