Benahadux to Host European Shooting Championship with Prehistoric Weapons

Benahadux will host this weekend the tenth round of the CEuropean Shooting Championship with Prehistoric Weaponswhich is celebrating its thirty-fourth edition, now being a regular stop in this competition that has been coming to the town since last year. 2015organized by the Benahadux City Council and the Benahadux Tiro Clan.

“The European Prehistoric Weapons Championship is a event that is now fully consolidated in our municipality and that each year attracts a large number of visitors from all over Europe and even from other continents,” noted Noelia Damián, who adds that “the important thing about these meetings is not the competition itself, nor the scores achieved by the participants, but the fruits that are obtained after two days of coexistence, in the form of exchanging experiences and sharing values recreating scenes from Prehistory, an ancestral world in which the survival of the group depended on the skill of the hunters.”

The European Prehistoric Weapons Shooting Championship was born at the end of the 80s thanks to Belgian, German and French prehistorians who studied the operating methods and performance of thrusters and bows. The objective then was confront and experiment with hypotheses about the manufacture and use of these weapons, in a spirit of fraternity and coexistence. Today, these meetings make it possible to raise public awareness more widely about the way of life of human populations during prehistory. These events, open to the general public, in addition to the competition, include visits to nearby archaeological sites and museums, as well as including entertainment activities.

Competitors shoot 30 targets of different sizes, separated between 8 and 26 meters, which show silhouettes of animal species present during the Upper Paleolithic and Mesolithic.
