Indonesian men’s doubles Bagas Maulana/Muhammad Shohibul Fikri failed to appear on 2024 Olympics after being eliminated in the first round of the 2024 Badminton Asia Championships (BAC).

Bagas/Fikri lost to Thai pair Supak Jomkoh/Kittinupong Kedren via rubber game 21-15, 16-21, 17-21 in the round of 32 which was held in Ningbo, China, Wednesday (10/4).

The eighth seeded pair in BAC 2024 admitted that they were disappointed because they could not go further in the final tournament which was to collect qualifying points for the summer Olympics.

“Yeah [merasa] disappointed. I am disappointed with this result. The opportunity to go to the Paris Olympics is closed. There’s no chance anymore. “This is a lesson for me in the future,” said Fikri in a post on PBSI’s Instagram social media account.

“Even so, I am still grateful, if we fail this year, hopefully in the next four years, we can qualify for the Olympics,” he continued.

Regarding the course of the match, the men’s doubles number nine in the world admitted that he had tried various variations of attacks and strategies to stop his opponent. However, Bagas/Fikri also admitted that there was quite a lot of pressure, which they could not resist when competing.

“In terms of game, we have tried various methods, including smashes, but the opponent’s defense is indeed strong,” said Fikri.

“Meanwhile, when we were 11-14 behind in the third game, there was also pressure on us. We kept trying to catch up, but the score difference was too big.”

With this, the final slot in the men’s doubles sector at the 2024 Olympics will most likely belong to the Chinese pair, Liu Yuchen/Ou Xuanyi, who are ranked eighth in the Race to Paris.
